Four international menu items will hit US restaurants this summer. With more than 36,000 locations in over 100 countries worldwide, McDonald’s Golden Arches tower is the largest fast-food chain for any company in the world. McDonald’s ‘World Wide Favorite’s menu.
The key to brand success in such diverse markets is the ability of the menu to cater to local taste buds by rethinking or creating all-new products suitable for the dining scene of the city or region. When stories like samosas like Mc Aloo Tikki, waffles and taro ice cream tarot ice cream, or McCall Tiki sandwiches touch our screens, American McDonald’s fans should be given a severe case of FOMO.
While the brand will be delivering international goods at its Chicago headquarters this summer, US residents across the country will have the opportunity to enjoy some of McDonald’s offers. Still, the chain launched four favorite menu options worldwide on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.
First, a state-of-the-art three-story restaurant opened on the corner of 45th Street Broadway and 45th Street today, featuring ordering kiosks, table service, and even an elevator to bring the food from the kitchen to the seating areas above. To provide food from the kitchen to the upper seats.
The flagship location, which is expected to be one of the world’s business locations, hosted a preview event for the media last night, to enjoy favorite items from around the world before coming to restaurants next week. Here are our thoughts on McDonald’s official product descriptions:
Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich (Canada)
Tomato mozzarella chicken sandwich topped with white meat, juicy and tender chicken.”
There’s a crispier version of this sandwich that may be over the Canadian border, and it just felt normal. It is mostly chicken, tomato, and mozzarella cheese, and pretty much the sum of its parts. If anything as someone who avoids messy and slippery sandwiches, we would say this is not very good – it could have had more sauce. You can ask for more.
Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger (Spain)
“A quarter pound of 100 percent fresh beef topped with thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon, smoky McBacon Sauce, real Gouda cheese, and slivered onions served on a freshly toasted sesame seed bun.”
Salty and a little smoky, you can expect anything with a lot of bacon in it. The bacon was very crispy (it’s a strategic success of gaining expertise in the quick-service industry) and gouda, although mild, is a good break from the usual American cheese.
I hadn’t thought about this before, but most McDonald’s burgers are very clean when you eat them. It went on the Messier side due to the sauce, but, as I said above, it was not off (I was happy to be at the table, not driving or anything). This item is usually the most significant departure from McDonald one would expect, but super accessible in terms of flavors to most American palettes.
Cheesy Bacon Fries (Australia)
“Our world-famous fries are topped with real cheddar cheese sauce, and chopped applewood smoked bacon.”
They are McDonald’s fries wrapped in a cheese sauce and bacon bits. No complaints about fries (so I don’t start a war on social media). The bacon slices are not crispy but satisfactorily salty, smoky, and flavourful. The cheese sauce was not the nacho cheese you first expected, so to my taste, it affected me a little blander than I thought. It knows that maybe I should try again. I mean, it’s fries, cheese, and bacon! How bad is all this?
Stroopwafel McFlurry (Amsterdam)
“Our creamy vanilla soft serve, along with the rich caramel swirl, features Dutch Daelmans Stroopwafel caramel waffle cookie pieces.
Finally, the wait is over, this McFlurry delivered. Unlike the photo, the standard paper cup was given to me with a plastic spoon, but it had to be held back. There is a substantial caramel ribbon throughout the soft serve, and a delicious texture with chewy toothsome wafers would want you to savor bite after bite as if you were getting a nice chunk of Oreo in your shake. If any of these items can withstand this promotional stunt, it should.
These items from around the world are available for a limited time in select restaurants (sorry, not in AK or HI). If you are interested in trying out more international dinners, a spokesperson told me that the success of this rollout would determine whether McDonald’s will consider displaying more menu items worldwide in the US in the future.
